Have you met Priceless the Kid? Perhaps caught him tearing up a set in the ATL? Well let us introduce you to him, this is Priceless the Kid. He is ridiculous; one of the sickest new MCs we’ve ever heard. We like this guy so much we actually purchased his CD off iTunes, as in paid real money for it, as in did not get it off Lime Wire. That hasn’t happened in a long time.

There are a lot of really good MCs that we discover everyday, we prefer a lot of them over the shit that hear on the radio. This guy is a “great” MC and we can’t wait for him to get some time on the radio. Aside from making great music, his live shows are amazing. His release party sold out the King Plow Center in Atlanta (and if you look at pictures of the event, it is full of hotties).

We asked Priceless for a minute of his time to answer a few questions for us. Below is what he had to say.

1. Tell us a bit about yourself. Where are you from and how did you come by the name “Priceless the Kid”?

Lets see… I’m 22 years old. I was born into a military family so I spent most of life moving around and traveling the world. I was born in the small town of Valdosta GA, and shortly after moved out west to Vallejo California and that’s when my ‘world tour’ began as I like to call it. Priceless was a name created back in high school. I went to a few different culturally mixed schools, so there was all types of music and artists that I got exposed too. With all the different races and what not, it was still easy to see the music that transcended to everyone. Like I moved to Guam on the other side of the world and the music that was hot there was the same as what was hot back in South Carolina.Background or status didn’t matter, location didn’t really matter, it was good music for the masses, Priceless in a sense. Thats where the name stems from though, The Kid appeared somehow later.

2. What got you from listening to music to making it?

Well I ran for student body president in 7th grade haha (yea i’ll admit) .. But instead of doing a speech I thought it would be dope if I rapped my speech for the school. I downloaded that old Big Tymers track “Get Your Roll on” and switched it to “Get Your Vote On” or something equally cheesy as fuck. It was the first rap I remember writing but it was dope! The school went crazy once I performed it on speech day, it was something different ya know. But ya I ended up winning the election, so I deciced to keep pursuing this music thing.

3. What influences do you draw on for your music?

Good vibes. If the vibe is there then everything else will fall into place. Good trees as well, life experiences, things I see on a day to day, this could go on for a minute…

4. What is the thing that you’re most proud of in your career?

I’m proud to have people listening to my words honestly. Like actually listening, ya know. It’s one thing to spit for homies and people you know, but when you have complete strangers out there that give you the time and enjoy the product to the point they tell someone who tells someone else about you- that whole process is amazing.

5. You’re driving from Atlanta to Athens, Georgia with your boys and you’ve got to make a playlist for the road. Who are some of the current artists making the cut?

I got Derek Vincent from Pretty Light’s tape in rotation, Wolf in a Spacesuit is in rotation. New Royce da 5′9 is in there, Radiohead is still current to some folks right? Got a few of their albums on deck. My production team Sympony Crack is def on there, I mostly listen to instrumentals and oldies these days.

6. Describe your album “No Barcode” and complete the following sentence.

7. What would be a perfect day for Priceless?

Hmmm.. I would wake up to some exotics (girl and nugs), head to the dojo and record a banger or multiple bangers, stop by the medical nug shop legally owned by me, greet my employees (which happen to be old homies) with a bonus and munchies,find some cash I thought I lost but instead stashed it somewhere random, text Megan Fox that I’m sorry but I can’t meet her for sushi tonight, she responds with the usual “sad face and a call me tommorow boo” — get a late night bbm and dip out to meet with Eva Longoria instead (Tony’s got a road game tonight)

8. What do you have going on in the future that we should be keeping an eye out for?

My ‘Diamond Life’ mixtape hosted by Diamond Supply Co x Don Cannon & DJ FU. That drops around Christmas, the first track ‘Feel Good’ off the tape got leaked and it’s gettin a crazy response right now. The whole project is off the wall tracks like that, its shaping up to sound more like an album with all the original music but that’s def not a bad thing! I got another project ‘The Road Less Traveled’ in the works, that’ll be out early next year and it’s all experimental/electronic production from some pretty big names. I’m also hitting the road with my live band, hopefully i’ll be in a city near you.

I know we are a little late in the game for just now discovering Phil Ade, but it was well worth the wait. Phil’s first album, Starting On JV was released in July and received a good amount of praise from around the DMV.

Yesterday, we were advised to download his mixtape (which is free) from a friend and have playing it through on repeat for the last 24 hours.

From what we’ve heard, we are of the opinion that this kid can definitely spit it and is probably only going to get better. He is signed to Raheem Devaughn’s 368 Music Group and as been making his rounds through the D.C. area performing with Wale, Clipse, XO, among others. We hear he has a pretty sick stage presence too, so go check him out.

The Rapathon will be held on November 21st from 12–6 pm at Listen Vision. 100 artists will perform a 16 bar verse each to be chopped, scratched, screwed and produced for Volume One of the new Listen Vision Rapathon Mixtape Series.
